2 Do you have a skeleton we need or is anything alright

Two answers

1 Yes ^_~

2 Anything is fine but I require the following at minimum:

-Age
-Name
-Birthdate
-Appearance (description is fine, picture is fine, both is finest)
-Description: Talk about what your character's personality is like more in-depth to just what's on their zodiac description. Talk about what they do with their daily life. If they are in high school, talk about their relationship with the other zodiacs close to their age. If they are younger talk about their hobbies or if they are older talk about their job.

Age wise for your character I would highly recommend nothing below 8 years of age and nothing above 28. 8 Might also be too young lol you want your character to have a distinct personality. That is going to be all the fun of this roleplay ^^

Hope this helps!

How do they transform to their animals? Is it similiar to Fruits Basket where if they're touched by the opposite gender they change? Or can it be done at their will?

Can they transform at all?

Microsoft kicks off Windows 8, Surface in NYC

NEW YORK (AP) ? Microsoft kicked off a campaign for its newest operating system, Windows 8, and its Surface tablet computer at New York's Pier 57. Designed to run on both PCs and tablet computers, Windows 8 heralds the biggest change to the industry's dominant operating system in at least 17 years.

Windows 8 attempts to bridge the gap between personal computers and fast-growing tablets with its touch-enabled interface. It represents Microsoft's answer to the growing challenge from Apple's iPad.

The launch event came amid a slew of other tablet offerings ahead of the holidays. Apple Inc. unveiled its iPad Mini with a 7.9-inch screen on Tuesday. Amazon.com Inc. and Barnes & Noble Inc., makers of the 7-inch Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet, are coming out with larger versions next month.

Surface is Microsoft's first venture into making computer devices. The device goes on sale Friday, as will computers and other tablets running Windows 8.

Here's a running account of the Windows 8 event, presented in reverse chronological order. All times are EDT.

Presenters include Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer; Windows chief Steven Sinofsky; Julie Larson-Green, the executive in charge of Windows Program Management; Michael Angiulo, who heads the Windows Client and Ecosystem Team; and Panos Panay, general manager of the Surface team.

___

2:25 p.m.

People in the audience were given hands-on time with the Surface after the presentation.

There were few surprises during either of the presentations. In afternoon trading, Microsoft gained 2 cents to $27.92.

___

2:15 p.m.

What is Surface, a laptop or a tablet?

"It's not just a tablet, but it's actually the best tablet I've ever used," Sinofsky said. "It's not just a laptop, but it's the best laptop I've ever used."

Sinofsky said the Surface has twice the storage memory as competitors for the same price ? though he didn't mention that about half of it gets taken up by the operating system and pre-loaded software.

The Surface event wrapped after about 40 minutes.

___

2:10 p.m.

There's a keyboard cover for Surface, costing $100 extra for the basic, $499 device. There are "keys" on the cover that allow for typing. Panay noted that the cover is pressure-sensing, so if you just rest your hands on it, it's not going to start erratically typing.

The cover also folds back and can act as a support for the device's kickstand if you're placing it on your lap.

___

2:05 p.m.

As previously disclosed, the Surface will come with the Office software suite for word processing, spreadsheets and other business tasks. Other tablets running Windows RT, the lightweight version of the operating system, will also come with a version of Office for free.

___

2 p.m.

The Surface has a kickstand. The back camera is angled in such a way that when it's leaning on the stand, it shoots straight out, not toward the table.

___

1:55 p.m.

In a gimmick to show its durability, Microsoft showed a picture of Sinofsky standing on a Surface outfitted with wheels to make a skateboard. The company also showed three skateboard Surfaces on stage.

___

1:45 p.m.

Microsoft described Surface as an extension of Windows, though the company noted that it's about extending other Microsoft products, too. Panay demonstrated watching movies and listening to music on the Surface and used an Xbox to relay content.

___

1:35 p.m.

Microsoft began a launch event for the Surface tablet at the same location at Pier 57.

___

1:10 p.m.

One thing missing from Thursday's launch event: partners, such as PC makers, on stage.

With the launch of Surface, Microsoft is competing with some of its partners. One analyst suggested that PC makers didn't want to come because of that, as going alone in a presentation was unusual.

"Maybe it's a freeze-out because of the Surface," said Richard Doherty, CEO of technology assessment and market research company Envisioneering.

Larson-Green said there was no such tension. She said PC makers gave Microsoft devices to show on stage, and representatives from each of them were in the audience.

"We made it a Microsoft event to keep it short," Larson-Green said.

The event clocked in at less than an hour. By contrast, Apple's event Tuesday went about 75 minutes ? and that was short for the company. That event didn't have any partners either, though past events from Apple have had them.

___

12:45 p.m.

Included with Windows 8 is a new version of Microsoft's browser, Internet Explorer 10. Microsoft says it's "perfect for touch" and will be designed to work seamlessly with its Internet-based storage service, SkyDrive. It's similar to how the latest version of Apple's Safari browser on Mac computers works with its iCloud storage service. In the case of Apple, Web pages open on other machines logged in with the same account can be easily accessed.

___

12:30 p.m.

One of the biggest changes with Windows 8 is the disappearance of the familiar start button at the lower left corner of the screen. It has been used to pull up a menu of applications and settings, and to shut down or restart the computer. Instead, people will have to swipe the edges of the screen.

There will be a new screen filled with a colorful array of tiles, each leading to a different application, task or collection of files.

Reached off stage, Ballmer was asked by The Associated Press whether there was any chance of bringing back the start button.

"You've got a whole screen as a start button," he said, referring to the screen of tiles.

At least one PC maker is restoring the start button in an effort to minimize the potential frustration caused by Windows 8's new look. Samsung Electronics Co. has announced models in which it built its own, optional start button that could be used to pull up a menu of applications.

During the presentation, a Microsoft executive had noted that the start button was something people had to get used to when it was first introduced, suggesting that people will get used to the new tile format, too.

___

12:20 p.m.

The keynote has ended, although the launch event continues. Microsoft plans to return at 1:30 p.m. with a presentation on Surface.

___

12:15 p.m.

Ballmer said outside developers have been working "fast and furiously" to make apps for Windows. He said developers have praised how they can write the same app for a variety of devices ? desktops, laptops and tablets.

"Windows 8 PCs really are the best PCs ever," he concluded.

He encouraged people to visit a store to try Windows 8 themselves.

"Seeing, touching, clicking and swiping really is believing," he said.

___

12:10 p.m.

Ballmer talked about the phone version of Windows, known as Windows Phone 8. There's an event planned Monday.

"I can't wait to show you how we've really reinvented the smartphone around you," he said.

___

12:05 p.m.

In telling people that their relationship with machines will change, Ballmer said, "Picture your start screen filled with everyone and everybody who's most important to you."

He added, "Windows 8 will help you do everything and will make it a lot of fun, frankly, to do ... nothing."

He said people will have several devices to choose from, including new designs that combine the best of PCs and tablets.

Ballmer said Windows 8 will also have a range of tools, including built-in search, news, finance, sports and other apps powered by Bing, Microsoft's search engine.

Bing has been struggling to compete with Google's search engine. Having it prominent in Windows 8 could help boost traffic to it.

___

Noon

Ballmer appeared on stage.

"Windows 8 shatters perceptions of what a PC now really is," he said. "We've truly reimagined Windows and kicked off a new era of Microsoft and for our customers."

___

11:55 a.m.

Microsoft showed off five devices running Windows RT, a lightweight version of Windows 8. Unlike the full version, RT can run only apps developed for it and obtained from the Windows online store.

One of them was the Surface. Other machines shown included ones from Dell Inc., Samsung Electronics Co. and AsusTek Computer Inc.

___

11:50 a.m.

The event was being held in a cavernous former bus depot, with more than 500 people in the audience. Pier 57 is located on the Hudson River, near the city's Meatpacking District.

___

11:45 a.m.

There have been few surprises, as Microsoft announced the release date and made preview versions available long ago. Microsoft's stock climbed 3 cents to $27.93 in midday trading. Trading volume was low, less than half of the average.

___

11:40 a.m

Larson-Green and Angiulo appeared on stage to demonstrate a Windows 8 machine upgraded with Windows 7 devices.

___

11:35 a.m.

Microsoft announced the grand opening of its Windows online store, modeled after Apple's iTunes store. It will sell apps and content for Windows machines.

The store will be open in 231 markets around the world. (Companies typically restrict sales to specific markets, as some content may not be available worldwide because of copyright issues and local laws. A launch in that many markets at once is unusual.)

There are plenty of third-party apps available for iPads, iPhones and devices running Google's Android system. Sinofsky acknowledged that Microsoft's app store will likely be slim at first.

"We know some people might count apps and look for their favorite apps," he said. Hinting at more to come, he added, "We see today as a grand opening."

He said there are hundreds of apps added every day, in 109 languages. He said the Windows store has more apps than any other app store had at its opening.

___

11:30 a.m.

Sinofsky said there have been 1,000 PCs certified for Windows 8, with the cheapest costing about $300. There will also be new models of slim, lightweight laptops called ultrabooks.

He reiterated that Windows 8 is designed to work equally well with touch-screen computers and those using keyboard and mouse commands.

___

11:25 a.m.

Sinofsky opened by talking about past versions of Windows. He noted that the current version, Windows 7, came out three years ago this week. He said 670 million Windows 7 licenses have been sold since then.

He said that in creating Windows 8, "We shunned the incremental. We boldly reimagined Windows." He said there have been 16 million installations of preview versions of Windows 8.

The software will go on sale at midnight local time around the world.

___

11:20 a.m.

Sinofsky appears on stage, which is flanked by 21 Windows 8 devices, ranging from tablet computers to "all-in-one" PCs, which are desktop computers with a built-in screen.

"Windows 8 is a major milestone in the evolution and revolution of computing," Sinofsky declares.

Vodafone UK spoiler campaign targets EE 4G launch

LONDON (Reuters) - Vodafone wrapped ads around British national newspapers on Friday touting the quality of its network ahead of rival EE's launch of next-generation 4G services next week.

The campaign, in The Daily Telegraph, The Independent and The Guardian nationals and in the Metro and City AM freesheets, cost more than 4.5 million pounds, according to a source close to the company.

It will be supported by outdoor advertising.

Since the arrival of smartphones, network quality has come to the fore as a point of differentiation between telecom operators, both in Britain and in other markets, according to analyst Thomas Wehmeier at Informa Telecoms and Media.

"All of these fancy devices that customers have, whether smartphone or tablets, simply don't work unless you have a decent level of connectivity," he said.

He said there had been little difference in network quality between UK operators but this would change with the arrival of 4G.

"The transition to 4G is significant because it opens the door for somebody to establish a beachhead as the UK's biggest and best 4G operator," he said.

EE, jointly owned by France Telecom and Deutsche Telekom, will launch Britain's first 4G network on Tuesday, offering five times faster connections than 3G.

It will be supported by a campaign costing tens of millions of pounds fronted by film actor Kevin Bacon.

Vodafone, as well as Telefonica's O2 and Three, must wait until next year to launch their own 4G services once they have obtained the necessary spectrum.

Wehmeier said Vodafone's campaign was a defensive move to stop customers who are willing to pay a premium for 4G defecting to EE.

"Those four to five months really are going to give EE a chance to attract a very interesting segment of customers," he said.

Spicy Sprouted Lentil Soup | The Coconut Mama

?

I started my real food journey almost five years ago. My body was in need of a lot of healing at that time. I had eaten a very poor standard American diet full of?processed?foods for many years. When I began my journey I decided to become a vegan. I did well on my vegan diet. I lost 58 pounds, my skin cleared up and I felt healthy for the first time in my life.?

Today I am no longer a vegan. I do still cook many of my favorite vegan dishes on a regular basis, though. One of my favorite vegan dishes is lentil soup. I would eat lentil soup ?almost every day when I first started my vegan diet.

I make this soup much more healthier than I use to. I use fresh ingredients (no cans) and I use sprouted lentils. Sprouting increases the nutrients of lentils and makes them easier to digest.

How To Sprout Lentils

Soak 2 cups of lentils in 4 cups of water. Allow lentils to soak for 6-8 hours (I usually do this overnight). ?Rinse the soaked lentils and place them in a jar. I like to use a sprouting lid on my jar. This makes sprouted a lot easier. Rinse the lentils every 6-8 hours. The lentils will begin to sprout during the first 24 hours of sprouting. Once lentils have sprouted you can keep them in the refrigerator to use in your recipes.

A Note About Broth

I prefer to use homemade broth because it is healthier and full of minerals. I highly recommend you use homemade chicken bone broth or mineral rich vegetable broth (recipe coming soon).

Spicy Sprouted Lentil Soup

Preparation Time: 30 minutes (not including time for sprouting) Number of Servings: 6 ?

Equipment Needed

  • 1 medium to large size pot
  • food processor or blender
  • sharp knife for cutting veggies

Ingredients

  • 4 cups sprouted lentils
  • 6 cups mineral rich vegetable broth (recipe?coming?soon!) or homemade bone broth
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon fresh ground pepper
  • 1 green chili or?jalapeno?pepper, chopped (add more or less according to your spicy preference)
  • 1 small red bell pepper, diced
  • 1 medium carrot, diced or shredded

Toppings (optional)

  • shredded raw cheese or?pepper?jack cheese
  • onions, chopped
  • salsa
  • sour cream
  • avocado

Directions

Pour ?broth, lentils and seasonings in a medium size pot. Bring to a boil and simmer until lentils are tender, about 10 minutes. Remove 2 cups of lentils and puree them in food processor or blender. Add lentil puree back to soup. Add diced carrots and bell pepper to soup. Continue to cook until veggies are tender, about 20 minutes. Remove and discard bay leaves before serving.

Top each bowl with favorite toppings. Serve with Baked Coconut Oil Corn Tortilla Chips and a slice of lime.

Jon Stewart slams GOP senators over vet bill

By Craig Berman, NBC News contributor

Comedy Central

You know it?s late in the election season when Jon Stewart doesn?t take advantage of Donald Trump?s October Non-Surprise to do a five-minute set on that "bombshell."

Instead, Stewart devoted himself to veterans? issues on Wednesday?s ?Daily Show.? There was some comedy, naturally, as Stewart railed against the Republican lawmakers who blocked a bill to ease veterans? reintegration into the civilian workforce because they were concerned about how to pay for that initiative.?

?Forty GOP senators thought it would be wrong to reintegrate veterans into the workforce ? part of which was because of the money that they already spent on war to make them veterans in the first place,? Stewart said.

He addressed the serious issue of those with skills learned in combat rather than in the classroom, which results in qualified applicants falling short of job requirements or requiring redundant training to acquire the necessary certification. Stewart brought on field medics Meg Mitcham and Daniel Hutchison to illustrate how their record of saving battlefield casualties would leave them short of the posted skills needed to be a school nurse, for example.

Then again, as Stewart said, it may be their own fault. ?What gave the veterans the idea that their military skills would be transferable in the real world in the first place??

Anyone who has ever seen an Army recruitment commercial knows that answer.

Who knows whether Mitcham and Hutchison will get new jobs out of this, but Stewart didn?t let Hutchison walk away empty-handed once he heard about his hometown.

?Oh, I didn?t realize you were from Ohio -- the only state that matters. Here?s a voter registration form,? Stewart said.

In contrast, Stephen Colbert stuck to the usual comic script on his ?Colbert Report," focusing attention on Libya and the continuing questions about who knew what when, how did they know it, and why didn?t they do whatever the folks in opposition wanted them to do.

?Questions that Fox News has not been afraid to ask ? 24 hours a day for the past six weeks,? Colbert noted.

Colbert is sympathetic towards the desire for more transparency, harking back to a more open time. ?Frankly, don?t you miss the Bush Administration? When we knew how to be afraid thanks to a color-coded scale that changed based on threats they often wouldn?t explain.?

Question after question after question. It?s impossible to answer them all. But that?s not really the point.

?Ultimately the question is how many questions do we have to ask before voters forget President Obama killed Osama bin Laden,? he said.

Another who shouldn?t expect a lot of sympathy is Indiana senatorial candidate Richard Mourdock, the latest GOP hopeful to trip up while inexplicably trying to make a point about rape and abortion. If he winds up losing because of that, consider it divine will.

?Don?t shed a tear, folks, because I?ve come to realize that this is just something that God intended to happen,? Colbert said.

The l Aquila Verdict: A Judgment Not Against Science, but Against A Failure of Science Communication

A court in Italy has convicted six scientists and one civil defense official of manslaughter in connection with their predictions about an earthquake in l?Aquila in 2009 that killed 309 people. But, contrary to the majority of the news coverage this decision is getting and the gnashing of teeth in the scientific community, the trial was not about science, not about seismology, not about the ability or inability of scientists to predict earthquakes. These convictions were about poor risk communication, and more broadly, about the responsibility scientists have as citizens to share their expertise in order to help people make informed and healthy choices.

It is ludicrous and na?ve for the American Association for the Advancement of Science to condemn the verdict, as they did the charges when they were filed, as a misunderstanding about the science behind earthquake probabilities. That this was never about the ability of seismologists to predict earthquakes is clear from the very indictment itself; the defendants were accused of giving ?inexact, incomplete and contradictory information? about whether small tremors prior to the April 6 quake should have constituted grounds for a warning.

It was never about whether the scientists could or could not predict earthquakes. Even the leader of the 309 Martiri (309 Martyrs) who pressed for the case to be brought said so; Dr. Vincenzo Vittorini, who lost his wife and daughter in the quake, said back when the trial began ?Nobody here wants to put science in the dock. We all know that the earthquake could not be predicted, and that evacuation was not an option. All we wanted was clearer information on risks in order to make our choices?.

Dr. Vittorini?s frustration and anger are understandable. The scientists did a horrible job of communicating. In fact, the scientists didn?t communicate at all! Italy?s national Commissione Nazionale dei Grandi Rischi asked the experts to convene after a series of tremors in the seismically active Appenines led a local physics lab technician to predict a big quake (based on radon levels).

The experts met for several hours, discounted the radon-based prediction, and agreed that the tremors could not help predict whether there would be a major quake. The scientists then left town without speaking at all. A local civil defense official who ran the meeting was asked about it by a reporter and casually and inaccurately described the discussions. ?The scientific community tells us there is no danger, because there is an ongoing discharge of energy. The situation looks favourable.? Dr. Bernardo De Bernardinis, deputy chief of Italy?s Civil Protection Department, added laconically that local citizens should go have a glass of wine. A little over a week later 309 of them were dead.

That is what this trial was all about; the poor risk communication from Dr. De Bernardinis ? one of those convicted ? and the NON-communication by seismic experts, who would certainly have offered more careful and qualified comments. Did that poor communication cause those tragic deaths and warrant manslaughter convictions? Certainly not directly, as the defense attorneys argued.

Did it fail a frightened community looking to the scientific experts for help, for guidance, for whatever insights they could offer?a community so scared by the tremors and that lab tech?s prediction that hundreds of people were sleeping outdoors? Yes, the poor communication was a serious failure, although scientists share the responsibility with the Italian national government.

While these scientists were there for their expertise in seismic risk, not as communicators, they also knew full well how frightened people were, and how important their opinions about the possibility of a major earthquake would be, and how urgently the community wanted?needed?to hear from them. But they just left town, and let a non-seismologist describe their discussions. For his failing to do so accurately and without appropriate qualifications, the scientists themselves are also surely to blame.

But so is the national government. How can a Commissione Nazionale dei Grandi Rischi, which convenes experts to try to predict and plan for various possible disasters, not include someone responsible for the vital job of risk communication? This is a critical part of overall risk management, because it shapes the way the public perceives a risk, and that has everything to do with how prepared people are for natural disasters, how they respond when a disaster strikes, and how they recover, both physically and psychologically.

The psychological recovery matters a lot to physical health. Chronic stress does great harm to human health in many ways and it is often the case in disaster recovery that the psychological damage does as much damage to the effected community, and in some cases more, than the disastrous event itself.

That there was no one at that experts? meeting trained in and responsible for communicating the results of the discussion to the public, is a gross failure in and of itself. At the very least the experts in the meeting should have been expressly told that as members of the Commissione Nazionale dei Grandi Rischi they had an obligation to communicate to the public they were there to serve. Any risk management program that overlooks the importance of risk communication is dangerously inadequate.

This entire affair could well have been prevented but for that oversight.

But there is a subtext here that brings us back to the role of scientists as communicators and educators, particularly scientists with expertise about issues involving risk. Indeed, this trial sends a message to them all. As much as we need experts to help predict and plan for risk to society in general, we also need experts to help us understand what we need to know to protect ourselves as individuals.

Scientific experts are among the most highly trusted sources of information in society, and as much as they share their expertise about risk with governments, they should also communicate with and educate individuals looking for the same kind of guidance. Small wonder then that the people of l?Aquila are celebrating what is essentially their revenge against those they hoped would help them make informed choices about how to stay safe, experts who ? quite innocently, to be sure ? let those people down.

Google Stoops to a New Low! | Internet Marketing Secrets, Affiliate ...

Google Stoops to a New Low!

I must say when I saw what I?m about to show you in this post I had to check it twice as I didn?t quite believe what I was seeing at first, but sure enough Google has stooped to a new low today in their never quenching thirst for more profit. I can?t confirm that this has been rolled out across the world, but it is happening where I live in New Zealand anyway.

Before I show you this I first want to lay down a little background. We all know that Google makes their money when people click their ads listed on a Google results pages and on other websites that are opting into the Adsense program. So obviously Google?s agenda is to get as many of these ads clicked as possible.

However stop for just a moment and remember what Google is useful for and why it has become such a popular tool for people to use in the first place. Google is a search engine, not a giant advertising billboard, let?s get that straight to start with. People use Google as a gateway to the internet, and Google is supposed to be showing a list of the most relevant websites related to a user?s search queries.

This all sounds well and good, what a great service, Google makes it easy for us to find websites right?well sort of, but over the years Google has taken advantage of their popularity and slowly but surely are moving towards being one giant advertising billboard and that?s it!!

What Happened to the Organic Listing?

Yes the organic listings, the websites that Google lists that DO NOT pay Google to be there. The ones that do SEO (search engine optimization) and get ranked on the front page of Google, what did happen to them? The way Google is going you might have to scroll to page 3 to find an organic listing soon.

Let?s take a look at a typical Google results page below that I see when I search in Google, so you can see where I?m going with this. This might not be the same for you, as possible Google is testing this out in some countries, New Zealand where I live being the perfect test place.

So you can see from that image that above the fold of the page now 95% of the real estate is taken up by NON ORGANIC listings. Google has now added an extra listing for ?Searches related to KEYWORD? just below where the Google Ads finish, thus pushing the organic results even further down the page.

When people click on these related results, it will load a new Google page which will of course show more Google Ads, and give Google another chance to get them clicked. This is just another aggressive trick from Google to stop people from visiting websites that are not Ads.

This is not the first time they have done dirty tricks like this, in fact Google is slowly but surely doing more and more of these cunning techniques. Don?t believe me? Well think back to 12 months ago when the background color of ALL ADS where a pink color that was obvious, so searches knew if they were clicking on an ad. Well Google went from obvious pink to a light pink that was hard to distinguish without tilting your screen, to now being WHITE so you can?t tell at all!

But there?s more, Google use to make it very obvious what listings were ads by telling you, as they were say ?Ads by Google?, but I guess that was being too helpful so now they just have the words ?Ads? and I wouldn?t be surprized if they remove even that soon.

What amazes me is that the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) comes down on affiliate sites who don?t make it obvious that they make a commission from links on their sites, but they let Google continue down this aggressive and somewhat deceptive path of advertising.

Do No Evil?.As Google Do Plenty For Us All

I get sick and tired of listening to garbage from Matt Cutts at Google telling us all to be transparent and put up QUALITY sites for the user experience when I see Google turn around and pull moves like this latest stunt.

One of Google Panda?s penalties was for sites that have too much advertising above the fold!!!!!! Can you see the irony in this, when a Google results page is essentially nothing more than one giant ad, as they push the organic results below the fold.

Google?s motto is ?do no evil? yeah right, you have to be kidding me, Google is shown quite clearly that they have no interest in helping people find the best website that meets their search query and instead want to show you the results that make them the most money.

Summary

I hope this latest move by Google annoys you as much as it has me. I would love to hear from you all below in the comments. However like I said Google might not have rolled this out globally yet, so you might not see it when you use Google, but I can assure you that it is there when I use Google, so something is going on.

How to build your mailing list that improves your conversion rate

Building your own mailing list can be one of the most challenging marketing achievements, and also one of the most rewarding. In case you?re wondering what I?m talking about, mailing list means the number of subscribers eagerly wanting to receive your e-mail messages. And it is not just 10-20 contacts, I?m talking about thousands of contacts.

Building your mailing list

Despite the onslaught of social networking websites like Twitter and Facebook email marketing still rules the roost when you want to reach serious business prospects. Your inbox still remains the most focused way of reaching you. Despite many people counting out e-mails for the next few years there is no chance of them going away. Anyway, this blog post is not about the virtues of email marketing, it is about how to build a killer mailing list for your upcoming email marketing campaigns. Here are a few things you could do:

Have a subscription form on every page of your website or blog

Just as you have your primary navigation on the sidebar, on the footer or on the top navigation, you should also have your email subscription form on every page of your website or blog. You never know when a visitor might decide to drop his or her email ID in order to subscribe to your updates. On every website every business has two objectives: either convert the visitor into a customer or a client, or get him or her to subscribe to the mailing list. That?s why, have your description form on every page. Ideally you can have it on the sidebar.

Keep the process of subscription as simple as possible

In order to help your visitors subscribe to your email updates, the most important bit of information you need from them is their email IDs. So your subscription form can either accept just the email ID or at the most the first name and the email ID. You can always encourage them to enter more information once they have subscribed, or even later on.

Use double opt-in

Double opt-in means making them confirm that they actually want to receive your e-mail messages. After they have submitted their email ID send a confirmation message on that email carrying a link that verifies that the email address actually belongs to them. Once they have subscribed on the preceding page let it be known to them that in order to receive your messages they quickly have to login to their inbox, open the e-mail that they have just received from you and then click the confirmation link. This ensures that they themselves have submitted the email ID and not somebody else.

Offer something valuable in lieu of subscribing to your email updates

This is the most prevalent way of getting new subscribers. You can offer them something really valuable, for instance a White Paper they can use for their business, an e-book full of useful information or some other digital product they can download and use immediately. Personally I don?t prefer this method because people should subscribe to your email updates solely for its benefit, but if you can get more subscribers, then heck, why not?

Partner with other publications

Many businesses and publishers offer more subscription options on their thank you page. For instance, when people have submitted their email ID they are redirected to a thank you page. On that thank you page they are presented with offers from other newsletters they can subscribe to.

Use Facebook and Twitter to build your mailing list

On Twitter you can occasionally invite people to subscribe to your mailing list but on Facebook you can create a dedicated fan page and then use a Facebook advertisement to direct people to that page. Here are some nice tips on how to successfully advertise on Facebook.

While building your mailing list keep in mind that it should be permission-based, that is, you should never purchase a mailing list. When you purchase a mailing list you never know whether these people actually want to hear from you or not, but when you build your own mailing list by getting permission of your recipients you are dead sure they welcome your messages.

Republican Senate candidate Todd Akin sticks to his principles ...

Todd Akin reaches back 391 years to explain his decision to stay in the race.

Plymouth Harbor, 1621. Almost half of the Pilgrims who arrived on the Mayflower, fleeing religious persecution, died during their first winter.Their ship was to set sail back to England, leaving behind ?55 men, women and children? determined to stare down the odds of survival, notes Akin.?They stayed. Why? Because they knew it was the right thing to do,? the U.S. Senate candidate ? one largely abandoned by a Republican elite that never thought much of him ? told a recent gathering of tea party activists. The Pilgrims chose ?to trust the results to God,? he added. And that happens to summarize his adult life.Until August ? when ?Todd Akin? became a late-night punch line ? the name seldom was spoken in national political circles despite his six terms in the U.S. House.Americans at once asked: What sort of man, especially one being counted on by the GOP to help seize the Senate, would say victims of ?legitimate rape? had the biological means to shut that whole thing down? That is, to ward off pregnancy ? a blurt-out he recanted the next day.The controversy has laid bare the principles and paradoxes of the St. Louis-area legislator. First, the principles, which friends and foes say are genuine: Akin abhors abortion and makes no exception for rape cases. He believes that separating God from government is dangerous and contrary to the wishes of the founding fathers.Just as genuine is Akin?s willingness to ignore his party?s pleadings, even when he was a freshman in Congress. His aversion to throwing money around is real ? to the point that he sleeps in his congressional office rather than rent his own place. He cut short a recent GOP gathering in eastern Missouri to personally replace his car?s brake pads.Such convictions are why he wound up in politics at all. Which leads to the paradoxes: Akin, 65, has more than once been labeled a ?third-tier candidate,? though he keeps getting elected. His political pals in Washington are few, but his friends in Missouri?s homeschooling and anti-abortion communities are many.He is the product of a family line of Harvard-bred business executives. Yet he spent much of the 1980s as a seminary student, out of work and searching for spiritual and vocational direction.Even into his 40s, when he landed in the Missouri General Assembly, Akin lived in his boyhood home with his parents, his wife, Lulli, and their homeschooled children.?That was the problem, I wasn?t making any money,? he said of his midlife years absorbing books about the origins of government. Despite his passion, Akin voices his beliefs with the calm cadence of a parent reading a bedtime story. His enters a room without commanding attention, exudes politeness and usually leaves having impressed most everyone that his cares and concern for country are honest.?What you see with Todd is what you get. There?s no pretense on any issue,? said friend and ex-Missouri lawmaker Delbert Scott, who is superintendent of Kansas City College and Bible School.GenerationsJust across the Missouri River from St. Louis, Akin?s great-grandfather Thomas Russell Akin incorporated the Laclede Steel Co. in 1911. The reins of the publicly owed company would be handed down to two generations of Akin sons. By the time Todd Akin?s father returned home from World War II, the slow-growing fortunes of Laclede Steel were poised for a surge.William Todd Akin is the oldest of four sons that Nancy and Paul B. Akin raised on a St. Louis County farmstead. Both parents are still alive.Paul, 91, recalls in spirited detail the year 1957, when 9-year-old Todd was first turned on to the American Revolution.Laclede Steel had sent the Akins to Massachusetts so Paul could take courses at the Harvard School of Business. They lived eight months in Concord near the historic Old North Bridge. Across the road stretched a cemetery where Todd would gaze at the inscriptions of buried soldiers.Returning to the St. Louis area, Todd Akin attended the private John Burroughs School. He encountered difficulty in language courses. First it was eighth-grade Latin, a class vexing enough to raise the question: How do I avoid taking languages in the future??So that put me in engineering school,? he saidHe went back to Massachusetts and enrolled in Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He learned to play guitar, joined ROTC and majored in management engineering ? ?I wanted to be a big executive in a medium-sized business, or a big business,? he said. But the decade after graduation would reset his plans. He served six months in the Army in 1972, then spent eight years as an engineer for the Army Reserves. At IBM, where he worked a few years as a marketing representative, he met Lulli, a systems analyst. After marrying, the couple moved in with Todd?s parents back in Town and Country, Mo., where Todd would pursue a career at Laclede Steel, managing maintenance at the mills.Todd up to this time had not been very religious. His military discharge papers indicated ?No pref? in the religion box.But shortly after coming back to Missouri, ?my wife and I committed our lives to the Lord,? Todd Akin said. ?This is what?s called ?born again.???His father already had been.?That whole idea of ?God, Honor, Country,? we were imbued with that,? said Paul Akin. Yet events of the 1970s ? Roe v. Wade, bans on school prayer, gun restrictions, expanding federal programs ? began to remind him of the regimes he helped conquer in Europe.Paul Akin retired as Laclede?s president in 1980. A short time later, the steel company restructured and Todd, then 33, lost his job.Together, father and son pursued divinity degrees at Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis, part of the conservative Presbyterian Church of America.?The Lord closed the door at the steel mill,? Paul Akin said, ?and opened doors in the seminary.?Christian journeyTodd Akin ?never felt he was called to be a preacher,? said John A. Stormer, a St. Louis-area pastor and author of the 1964 anti-communist bestseller ?None Dare Call it Treason.? He got to know Akin?s parents while campaigning for GOP presidential challenger Barry Goldwater.Akin?s Christian journey began with a question, Stormer said: ?He wanted to know how it applied to him, personally.? If the pulpit wasn?t in God?s plan for Akin, might his patriotism lead somewhere? While in seminary, one of the issues that would help shape Akin?s political future developed at home. His first-born, Winn, began to struggle in first grade. Lulli floated the idea of pulling the boy out of school and educating him at home.?I don?t know where she got that idea,? Akin said. ?I told my wife we?d try it for six months and see how it works.?Winn became happier and test scores showed stunning results in second grade. The Akins would homeschool all six of their children.Unlike today, homeschooling in the early 1980s was a radical concept met with fierce resistance.?That was a very traumatic time for the homeschooling movement,? said Brad Haines, executive director of the Missouri group Families for Home Education. ?There were families who actually risked incarceration.? Legislators in Jefferson City enacted rules to rein in the practice, and homeschoolers ? including the Akins ? fought back. A successful suit turned back the new laws. schoolers as one of the best in the nation. After getting his divinity degree, Todd Akin spent a couple of years poring through books about the nation?s founding, such as John Eidsmoe?s ?Christianity and the Constitution.?Work that would bring a steady salary, however, is nowhere in Akin?s biography between 1980 and 1988, the year he won a seat in the Missouri House. And the elected job paid only $21,000 a year. (His Senate campaign said the Akins never received public assistance during this period or since.)?It was a little scary,? Akin said, noting that he and his wife tapped savings from their work at IBM. Lulli Akin also sold standardized tests for homeschoolers. At least the living expenses were agreeable. When his parents moved out of Todd?s boyhood home in the early 1990s ? to Clarksville, Mo., where Paul Akin was called to lead a church ? Todd?s family had a place mortgage-free. ?They never acquired it. They just lived there,? Paul Akin said with a laugh. (A very tight family, the Akins would always be. Today, Todd?s son Perry serves as campaign manager, ?and I can?t pay him a nickel,? Akin noted.)As a state legislator in an upscale, heavily Republican district, Akin drew the notice of ministry circles nationwide. In 1992 Florida-based Coral Ridge Ministries ? whose founder, the Rev. D. James Kennedy, strongly influenced Akin ? sent a video crew to Missouri to follow Akin.?The story was of a man who graduated from seminary and pursued a ministry of politics as opposed to the pulpit,? said Jerry Newcombe of the group renamed Truth in Action Ministries. And Akin?s core supporters ? evangelical Christians and home educators ? could be counted on to show up when needed.Former Democratic state Rep. Bill Skaggs of Kansas City recalled ?Akin was leading the charge? in 1999 against a bill Skaggs introduced requiring homeschooled pupils to take the same assessment tests that public-school pupils take.?You literally could not walk the halls of the Capitol, it was so full? of upset parents, said Skaggs. ?Never seen anything like it.?His bill died in committee.?Todd?s a nice guy,? Skaggs added. ?I don?t think there?s a mean bone in him. He just has his own ideas.? Akin stunned the Missouri GOP in 2000 when he emerged the victor from a field of five Republican candidates running for the 4th District seat in the U.S. House. Some polling before primary day had Akin dead last behind dueling moderates, including longtime St. Louis County Executive Gene McNary. But a violent rainstorm lowered the turnout, and Akin edged McNary by 56 votes.Divine intervention? ?I thought so,? said supporter Stormer. Akin has been re-elected to Congress by comfortable margins ever since.Perfect scoresAkin built one of the most conservative records in all of Congress, scoring throughout his 12 years perfect 100 scores from Americans for Prosperity and the National Right to Life Committee.Though kind to the military, and especially with contracts that benefited the Boeing plant in his district, Akin burned some GOP bridges by rejecting key domestic proposals heralded by Republican leaders. He voted no to No Child Left Behind ? too much federal intrusion. No to the prescription drug benefit that George W. Bush pitched for Medicare ? a ?budget buster,? Akin called it.Back in St. Louis County, where Akin returned every weekend, he donned colonial garb when hosting Fourth of July parties at his home. The family in recent years moved to the exurb of Wildwood and took out its first-ever home mortgage.Akin?s atypical background, his independence and reluctance to hobnob with fellow Missouri Republicans caused many in the party establishment to roll their eyes when he prevailed in the August primary for U.S. Senate. As in the 2000 race for Congress, Akin scored an upset against others who spent more.?The Republican machine can?t always count on him. And to a lot of us, that?s a virtue,? said St. Louis Christian-radio host Harold Hendrick. His ?legitimate rape? remark, however, was seen as a foolish, fatal blow ? even by Akin supporters ? to his Senate chances.Akin said it during a TV interview on a Sunday. That afternoon, the National Republican Senatorial Committee, which funds campaigns, contacted longtime Akin adman Rex Elsass and instructed him to shoot a commercial offering Akin?s apologies.?They were helping us Sunday,? said Elsass, founder of the Strategy Group for Media. ?By Monday, the party was ginning up any powerful person they could find to discourage Todd (from staying in the race). They already had the gallows ready.?Akin appeared stricken by the reaction as he spent two days at Elsass? home in Ohio. The candidate at one point glanced at a TV and saw Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus uninvite Akin to the party?s convention in Florida.?Todd just turned and said, ?Why would he feel that way about me???? said Elsass. ?And not with any anger. More sadness ? almost empathetically sad.? Elsass was rushing out the door to take Akin to the airport when presidential challenger Mitt Romney called to urge that Akin bow out. Nobody bothered to answer the call. Was Akin ever thinking of taking Romney?s advice? ?Never,? Elsass said. ?Never.? Radio host Hendrick: ?If Todd wins this thing? It would be like ?Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.? He defies all the odds and stands for principles ? to heck with what the party bosses say.? Akin told The Kansas City Star, ?It?s not about me.? Yet he allowed that ?no doubt people will blame me? should he lose and the Senate stays barely in Democratic hands.?My sense is I had been given a task to do as the Republican nominee, and that is to replace Claire McCaskill,? he said. ?I believe the results are in God?s hands.?
